Political Conferences Political Conferences The work of CENTROPE draws on four key political documents adopted at the ‘summit meetings’ of the governors, county presidents and mayors of the regional capitals between 2003 and 2007. Together, they embody the common will to create a Central European Region, to take measures in a number of thematic areas and to speak with a common voice in contacts with external partners. Utopia until few years ago, CENTROPE gradually becomes a self-evident reality. One and a half year after adoption of the ‘Vision 2015’ a detailed business plan for its gradual implementation is being finalised, as a timetable for concrete cooperation activities supported by partners on an equal footing. In the Bratislava Memorandum “Long-term and Professional Cooperation” the CENTROPE partners agree
CENTROPE 2008 plus will open yet another phase of cooperation. On an equal footing all participating partners will take responsibility for the common endeavour by contributing personally, institutionally and financially. This will result in renewed dynamism and awareness for CENTROPE, and will crucially contribute to the implementation of the common projects. Top Vienna 2006: ‘We Shape the Future’
The Viennese conference ‘We Shape the Future – CENTROPE 2006 plus’ on 2 March 2006 marked the end of the first phase of the CENTROPE project and the kick-off of a new stage of co-operation in the Central European Region.
A particular highlight of the event at Vienna City Hall was the ‘Route CENTROPE’ installation. With about 100 objects the more than 400 participants got to know the diversity of the Central European Region and were able to have a glance into the future of CENTROPE. Top St. Pölten 2005: ‘We grow together. Together we grow.’ The St. Pölten Memorandum of April 2005 constituted the first statement of the CENTROPE partners regarding specific thematic areas and challenges in the common region.
